Origins
Plague comes from the bacterium Yersinia pestis which is typically found in fleas. Its most common secondary host are rodents. It's a zoonotic disease, meaning it can travel from animal to human, and vice-versa. Flea to human is the most common means of human infection and the primary cause of all three pandemics.
